According to Deadline, the Blue Valentine actor is finalising a deal to star in the science fiction movie for his Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn.
The 1976 Logan's Run took place in a utopian world where life must end at 30. Michael York starred as Logan, a "Sandman" who tracks down those who try to escape death. It is based on William F. Nolan's cult novel, in which the age of termination is 21.
Jenny Agutter, Richard Jordan, Peter Ustinov and Farrah Fawcett also starred in the original film.
X-Men director Bryan Singer had previously been attached to the remake, intending to bring the age back down to 21, while newcomer Carl Erik Rinsch was recently on board the project but left to direct Keanu Reeves in 47 Ronin.
Gosling's Drive is due out in cinemas in September.
