According to Gossip Cop, the Mission Impossible star is currently in final negotiations for the role of rock star Stacee Jaxx.
Hairspray director Adam Shankman is attached to helm the project, being financed by both Warner Bros and New Line Cinema.
Other stars rumoured to be in talks for the film include Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blige.
The musical is a comedy based around the glam rock music of the eighties, including the tracks 'The Final Countdown' by Europe and 'Don't Stop Believin' by Journey.
Rock Of Ages is believed to be scheduled for release later this year.
