Blunt, who voices Juliet in the film, revealed that there are good and bad points to playing a voice acting role as opposed to a traditional live-action part.
"It's a different discipline in that I didn't realise how much you have to read, in just the voice, when you take the face away and take the expressions away," Blunt told PopEater. "I'd basically turn up in my pyjamas and just do 100,000 readings of each line until I got something.
"They filmed me while I was doing the voice-over, so they could mimic some of my facial expressions," Blunt explained. "It was interesting watching a few scenes because I'd see her do some expressions and I'd think, 'I definitely do that'. It's weird."
Blunt, who is known for her well-received roles in The Devil Wears Prada and The Young Victoria, will also appear later this year opposite Matt Damon in the science fiction thriller The Adjustment Bureau.
Gnomeo & Juliet was released in cinemas this weekend.
