According to Slashfilm, the helmer could join the project if his latest film I Am Number Four is a box office success.
Created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, Preacher was first published under DC's Vertigo imprint in 1995. It follows a down-and-out preacher named Jesse Custer who becomes the most powerful being in existence after being possessed by the creature Genesis.
Producer Neil Moretz is said to be in possession of a screenplay for the film, penned by John August. It has been speculated that Caruso may write his own treatment should he join the venture.
Darren Aronofsky has previously been linked with the movie.
