According to Vulture, the project - based on Jordan Belfort's memoir - has left the hands of Warner Bros and director Ridley Scott and will be produced independently with Scorsese at the helm.
Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter wrote the script for Wolf Of Wall Street. The book details how a New York broker guided his team into making millions, then used the money to fund an extravagant lifestyle until getting caught by the FBI.
Shooting on Wall Street could begin as early as June 2012, when Scorsese has completed work on the Benicio Del Toro-led thriller Silence.
Scorsese and DiCaprio previously worked together on Gangs Of New York, The Aviator, The Departed and Shutter Island.
