According to NY Magazine, Kunis has turned down a role in Albert Hughes's live-action adaptation of Akira in the hopes of joining the project.
Following previous reports that James Franco was in talks to be Raimi's lead, it is now believed that the actor is a lock-in for the film if Kunis also signs on.
The actress is up for the part of Theodorah, the Wicked Witch of the West, while Franco would play the film's protagonist, who becomes lost in the land of Oz.
Rabbit Hole writer David Lindsay-Abaire is penning the film's script, which is based on the popular works by L. Frank Baum.
Filming for Oz, The Great And Powerful is due to begin in July.
