Speaking to Total Film magazine, the actor and comedian said that his alter ego Arthur Bach - first portrayed in 1981 by Dudley Moore - lives a life devoid of meaning.
He explained: "He's got all that money but he's not got anything to live for. Until he's accepted by the coercive proposed marriage and then by falling in love.
"He doesn't really have anything to achieve. It's such a lovely story because it's an archetypical fairytale."
