The director will be taking the reins on G, which follows the journey of a man looking for his lost child while the earth threatens to stop spinning.
Initially titled Gravity, the film has been described by the Hollywood Reporter as "a sci-fi disaster pic with shades of The Day After Tomorrow and Taken".
Leterrier's next film to hit cinemas is a thriller in which a team of illusionists pit themselves against the FBI.
