Tom Hooper is reportedly in negotiations to direct the film adaptation of Les Miserables.

The novel, which is already a hugely successful West End musical, is about an ex-convict who is struggling to set his life right in revolutionary Paris.

Hooper, who directed the BAFTA-winning The King's Speech, is said to have turned down Iron Man 3, potentially freeing up time to work on the epic novel adaptation.

The helmer is nominated for an Academy Award for 'Best Director' for the historical drama starring Colin Firth.
