'V for Vendetta' / Warner Bros.
V For Vendetta opened at the top of the US box office chart last weekend, taking $26.1m.
Adapted from Alan Moore and David Lloyd's graphic novel by Andy and Larry Wachowski and directed by James McTeigue, the political thriller stars Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman. The week's only other new entry was Andy Fickman's romantic comedy She's the Man in fourth place.
Meanwhile, the previous week's Failure to Launch and The Shaggy Dog each dropped a place to second and third respectively.
