The Lost star recently confirmed that he had quit TV roles and would focus on film and theatre work.
"My saying that always had to do with how much freedom I have - nothing to do with me feeling a film career is more respectable or prestigious," Fox explained. "Some of, if not all the best writing is happening in television.
"It may be that me saying I won't do television any more means I don't ever work again except for in the theatre, because there's just not a lot of film scripts that excite me right now, and it's a hugely competitive business. Who knows?"
Of his desire to move into comedy, he added: "I think people probably don't think I can do that but I'd like to show people I do have a sense of humour. I'm a bit of a practical joker - I have a sense of humour that's pretty dark. You're not going to see me doing any sitcoms, I can say that."
