During her on-stage remarks, a nervous Leo lamented that Winslet made Oscar speeches look "so f**king easy" when she won the 'Best Actress' prize for The Reader two years ago.
Speaking to Zap2it, Winslet joked that she should not be held responsible for the Fighter actress's blunt verbiage.
"Everyone dumps all this s**t on me, all the f**king time," she said. "She is right though. She is absolutely right. I have got to hand it to her - and she did curse on the stage of the Academy Awards. That's my kind of cool."
Winslet also revealed that she contacted Leo after the Academy Awards ceremony ended on Sunday night.
"I sent her a text message, [saying] 'Is that f**king you, Melissa? You motherf**king cow'… And the bitch hasn't called me back," the actress said.
Over the course of her career, Winslet has received six Oscar nominations including nods for her performances in Sense And Sensibility, Titanic and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
She will next star with Leo and Evan Rachel Wood in the TV adaptation of author James M. Cain's Depression-era novel Mildred Pierce, which premieres on March 27 on HBO.
