In an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the movie's LA premiere, the 'Because Of You' singer revealed that he became angry when Eckhart didn't acknowledge him during filming breaks.
"It was a little weird at first. I didn't understand the concept of staying in character the whole time," Ne-Yo said. "We almost got in a little tussle just behind me not understanding that he's still in character."
Despite initial on-set tension, the musician praised Eckhart for his dedication to the craft of acting.
He added: "He's a fantastic actor. I learned a lot just by watching him."
Battle: Los Angeles opens on March 11 in the US and the UK.
