Sources have told What Is Playing that Universal is keen to reboot the franchise after the success of G.I. Joe: Rise Of The Cobra.
It was added that the firm is looking at a script that will take full advantage of 3D in cinemas.
The original Doom movie, which starred Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban, was released in 2005.
Developer id Software has been working on Doom 4 for PC and consoles since 2008, and has yet to be given a tentative release date.
