The director of Traffic told The Hollywood Reporter that he is bored of the industry.
He said: "When you reach the point where you're like, 'If I have to get into a van to do another scout I'm just going to shoot myself', it's time to let somebody else who's still excited about getting in the van, get in the van."
Soderbergh added that he had been turning down projects for the past three years before coming to his decision.
However, the Oscar winner still has two already-shot films lined up, featuring George Clooney and Matt Damon.
Clooney will be seen in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., while Damon will be starring in Liberace with Michael Douglas.
