Still from 'Rango'
Johnny Depp's Rango has topped the Australian box office on its first weekend on release.

The animated movie, which reunites Depp with his Pirates Of The Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, pulls in $2.7 million in ticket sales to knock last week's number one Hall Pass off the chart summit.

The Adjustment Bureau, I Am Number Four and The King's Speech fill out the remaining top five spots. Colin Firth's Oscar-winning drama has now grossed $28 million Down Under as it enters its third month on release.

Elsewhere, Anthony Hopkins horror The Rite debuts at number seven and the final instalment in Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest, is at number nine following pre-release screenings.
