Fox Searchlight is reportedly interested in giving the project to the helmer, whose most recent box office smash was The Fighter.
The studio is hoping to acquire the rights to Big Bosoms and Square Jaws: The Biography of Russ Meyer, King of the Sex Film, Deadline reports.
Meyer is most famous for bringing an array of campy big-chested female characters to screen in trashy exploitation films such as Vixen! and Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!.
He wrote, directed and distributed his own films which were commercially successful despite having controversial content.
Russell's Fighter, starring Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg, was based on the true story of Boston pugilist legend 'Irish' Micky Ward.
However, the Three Kings helmer is also connected to several other projects including a possible sequel to The Fighter.
