Joseph Gordon-Levitt has officially joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's upcoming Batman film The Dark Night Rises.

Gordon-Levitt reportedly signed on for the film last month, but Variety has now confirmed that following almost two months of negotiations, the (500) Days of Summer star has officially joined the film.

Warner Bros has yet to announce which role Gordon-Levitt is to play, although rumours suggest that it would be either Robin, the villain Deadshot, or a Gotham City mob boss.

Kaboom star Juno Temple has also joined the film's cast in a supporting role, playing a "street-smart Gotham girl".

Gordon-Levitt will be reunited with Inception director Nolan for the project, as well as his former co-stars Tom Hardy and Michael Caine, who will star as Bane and Alfred respectively.

The Dark Knight Rises is due for release on July 20, 2012.
