Jake Gyllenhaal has admitted that his film Source Code is more poignant in light of the disaster in Japan.

The actor told the BBC that the technology in the film may have struck a chord with those affected by the events.

In an interview, he said: "It was a weird situation when we were publicising the movie in the wake of all of the things that have happened there and talking about a movie where could you go back in somebody else's body and stop some huge catastrophe from happening."

Source Code looks at the consequences of a technology which allows its users to go back into the last eight minutes of people's lives and see what they would change if they had the chance.

The film, which also stars Michelle Monaghan, is released on April 1.
