Ray Winstone to lose weight for Coldplay film

Ray Winstone is to lose weight for his latest role as an Alzheimer's sufferer in the forthcoming film Ashes.

The project, which is part-funded by Coldplay, is currently being filmed on the Isle of Man by Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll director Mat Whitecross.

Speaking to the BBC, Steven Christian of the government-supported Cinema NX said: "It's great to get Ray. He signed up to do this about a year ago and has been in training to get into shape for the part - basically lose some weight."

Ashes will see Winstone co-starring with Lesley Manville, Luke Evans and Jodie Whittaker.

Whitecross and Coldplay, who could use the feature as a promotional tool for their forthcoming album, have collaborated in the past on the band's music videos.

Winstone is also to reteam with Sexy Beast writer David Scinto for the thriller Night Flower.
