Loach, the son of legendary British director Ken Loach, told Digital Spy that he has been developing his second feature film for several years.
"Rona's written a new script which we've been working on for three and four years now. We're really excited about that, so we're hoping to do that next," he said.
The filmmaker added that the project will be markedly different from Oranges And Sunshine, which centres on Emily Watson's Nottingham social worker uncovering a mass child migration scandal.
"Every time I say anything about it I get told off! It's a bit early but it's completely different to [Oranges And Sunshine]," Loach said of his next project.
"It's definitely not a musical or a science fiction, but it's a fiction and it's an amazing story that Rona's written. It's completely different to the rhythm of [Oranges And Sunshine]. It's got much more action and it's a much younger lead character. We're really excited about it."
Oranges And Sunshine opens in UK cinemas on April 1.
