Katherine Heigl's film One for the Money has been delayed for release until January 2012.

The actress will take on the lead role in the adaptation of the bestselling novel by Janet Evanovich about a lingerie buyer forced to become a bounty hunter after she loses her job.

Makers Lionsgate were initially planning to release the film in July this year, Deadline reports.

No official reason has been given for holding back the project.

Variety reported in January that Reese Witherspoon was attached to the adaptation several years ago, before Heigl expressed an interest in reviving it.

Heigl is said to be replacing Halle Berry in a romantic comedy about a caterer, which also stars Jon Bon Jovi.
