According to Movie Web, the remake of the first movie to star demonic doll Chucky was announced years ago. However, the film was later put on hold over a rights issue.
The script for the remake was written by Don Mancini, who also penned Child's Play 2, Child's Play 3, Bride Of Chucky and Seed Of Chucky.
Production on the film is scheduled to begin later this year, with Brad Dourif continuing to voice Chucky.
Seed Of Chucky, the last film in the franchise, was released in 2004, and starred Lord Of The Rings actor Billy Boyd and former S Club 7 singer Hannah Spearritt.
The reboot of Child's Play is currently scheduled for a December 2011 release.
