Twentieth Century Fox has confirmed eternal speculation that a Simpsons movie will be made for release next year.
The announcement was made through a brief trailer shown before Ice Age 2: The Meltdown in the US.
It begins deceptively, saying: "Leaping his way onto the silver screen, the greatest hero in American history."
Next, however, it cuts to Homer Simpson sitting in his underpants. He announces: "I forgot what I was supposed to say."
Then the voiceover returns to reveal: "The Simpsons Movie, coming to the screen, July 27, 2007."
Homer adds: "Uh, oh, we better get started."
