According to Screen Rant, Shuler-Donner stated that the Deadpool movie will not be based on the previous X-Men films.
"It's a total reboot… It's insane, it's definitely comedy," said Shuler-Donner. "But it's an R script, it's really irreverent and violent. Right away, we're out of the X-Men world."
Actor Ryan Reynolds portrayed the character of Deadpool in the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds recently revealed that he hopes to reprise the character in the future. He has also promised a darker movie, saying that his character will be "a nasty piece of work".
Deadpool will explore the character's origins. The script is to be penned by the writers behind Zombieland, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
The film is currently in development and scheduled for a 2014 release.
