Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, the writers behind the Kung Fu Panda franchise, have been hired to pen the script for the Candyland movie, according to Screen Crave.
The plot reportedly revolves around the characters in Candyland looking for their lost king.
Kevin Lima, who is best known for his work on the Oscar-nominated Enchanted, is slated to direct the project.
Candyland is only one of the many movies based on a board game in development. A movie version of Battleship, starring Alexander Skarsgard and Rihanna, is scheduled to open in July. In addition, Ridley Scott will direct a film based on Monopoly.
Meanwhile, the other writers behind Kung Fu Panda, Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff, have been tapped to write a sequel to Jaden Smith's Karate Kid.
It was recently announced that Disney plans to make six movies in the Kung Fu Panda franchise.
Kung Fu Panda 2 is expected to open in cinemas on May 26 in the US and June 10 in the UK.
