According to the Los Angeles Times, the actor, who recently secured an Oscar nomination for his role as speech therapist Lionel Logue in The King's Speech, will voice the character of Tomar-Re, with an official announcement expected later this week.
Tomar-Re is a bird-like alien who is a member of the Green Lantern Corps. A scientist by trade, he becomes a friend and mentor to protagonist Hal Jordan.
Recent reports suggest that Michael Clarke Duncan is also in talks to voice the character of Kilowog, head trainer of the Green Lantern Corps.
Speaking to DS earlier this week, Mark Strong confirmed that his character Sinestro will "go over to the dark side" in the movie, which is directed by Martin Campbell.
Green Lantern, which stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, opens in US and UK cinemas on June 17.
