The studio announced that the No Heroics scribe will work on a script for the superhero sequel with helmer Shane Black, Deadline reports.
Black was unveiled as director on the project in February following the departure of Jon Favreau, who left the franchise to helm Magic Kingdom.
Robert Downey Jr will reprise his role as Tony Stark and his armour-clad alter ego for the film. The actor will reunite with Black, having previously collaborated with him on 2005's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Pearce has prior experience with Marvel Studios, scripting an adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona's comic series Runaways. Peter Sollett was attached as director before the studio shelved the project.
Iron Man 3 is slated for release on May 3, 2013.
