Blake Lively has revealed that she loved going brunette for her role in The Green Lantern.

The Gossip Girl actress, who plays Carol Ferris - also known as Star Sapphire - in the upcoming film adaptation of the popular comic book, told Access Hollywood that she got the idea from a concerned security guard who insisted that she change her hair colour for the part.

"I loved having the brown hair," she explained. "It was the first time I did anything different. I'm about to change my hair again for another movie."

"This man, who I've never heard say more than four words - you would never pin him as a comic book fan - as soon as it came out that I was playing Star Sapphire, he was like, 'You have to dye your hair brown!'"

She continued: "He said, 'Not only for my sake as a fan, but for your own security. I'm telling you, you have to dye your hair brown! People will attack you, people will be so angry'."

The Green Lantern opens worldwide on June 17.

Geoffrey Rush recently joined the cast as the voice of Tomar-Re.

Warner Bros previously announced Green Lantern: Rise Of The Manhunters as its debut Nintendo 3DS title.
