Earlier this year, Sylvester Stallone revealed that work had begun on a sequel to last year's The Expendables, which starred a host of high-profile action stars, including Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dolph Lundgren.
Total Film reports that studio Lionsgate announced at CinemaCon that the official release date for the project will be August 17 2012.
The film does not yet have a director attached, after Stallone ruled himself out of writing and directing the sequel.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Jean-Claude Van Damme could be in line for a role in the production, in place of Steven Seagal.
Stallone has previously told Twitter followers that The Expendables 2 "is taking a more hard edged tone - An Extreme case of Male-Pattern-Baddness is arising (sic)".
