Cavill confirmed that he had already met with Adams to do a screen test just prior to the announcement of the actress's casting as Lois Lane last week.
"I have met with her, yes," Cavill told MTV News. "There was a screen test and, fantastic actress, very talented, looking forward to working with her."
The actor also remarked that the nine-year age gap between the two actors wouldn't have any impact on the relationship between Lois Lane and Superman.
"To be honest, that's a question for the director," Cavill added. "Happenstance. I don't think it matters at all."
Cavill was cast as Superman in January this year, reportedly beating out the likes of Joe Manganiello, Matthew Goode and Armie Hammer for the part.
Zack Snyder's Superman reboot is expected in cinemas in December 2012.
