The science fiction blockbuster, previously called Rise of the Apes, has now been named Rise of the Planet of the Apes and will debut in cinemas on August 5.
James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Andy Serkis, Brian Cox and Tom Felton star in the movie, directed by The Escapist's Rupert Wyatt.
The plot revolves around genetically engineered chimp Caesar (Serkis) leading an ape uprising against humans in present-day San Francisco.
Weta digital is handling the effects for the blockbuster, making it the first movie in the Apes series to use photo-realistic CGI as opposed to actors in costumes.
The Planet of the Apes saga, based on Pierre Boulle's novel, began in 1968 with the Charlton Heston film and continued with four sequels and a short-lived TV series. Tim Burton and Mark Wahlberg teamed up to remake the original in 2001.
