The supernatural thriller is an adaptation of Dean Koontz's bestselling novel about a short-order cook who is able to see the dead and identify the presence of evil spirits.
According to Variety, Dafoe has been tapped by the G.I. Joe director to take on the role of Sheriff Wyatt Porter.
Porter is one of the few people in the film who is aware of Odd Thomas's power, but keeps it a secret because Thomas helps him to prevent crime.
Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin has already been signed to play the lead role of Odd Thomas himself.
Odd Thomas is scheduled to begin filming in New Mexico on May 2.
