True Crime unravels the motivation behind the death of advertising agency owner Dariusz Janiszewski whose missing cellphone was traced to a Polish murder mystery novelist.
It was found that Krystian Bala's novel, published after Janiszewski's murder in 2000, had a plot paralleling the details of his death.
The script penned by Last King of Scotland writer Jeremy Brock will draw on an article examining the case that was published in The New Yorker in 2008, The Playlist reports.
Sony Pictures Classic was in the process of acquiring Polanski's latest feature God of Carnage last week.
Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christopher Waltz and John C. Reilly star in the adaptation of the play about parents who decide to meet after their children fight at school.
