Jones dismissed the notion of revisiting The Man Who Feel To Earth with Bowie, but suggested that he will try to make a movie with him once he has more experience as a feature director.
"I would love to work with him one day, but it'll be a while before I do it," Jones told Digital Spy.
"I'm only two films into my career as a director and if I'm ever going to take on that responsibility of having to work with my dad, I want to be absolutely damn sure that I'm a good enough director to do it. I think I need a few more films before I'm ready for that."
Bowie has starred in films such as The Hunger, Labyrinth and The Prestige. He recently appeared in 2009 romantic comedy Bandslam as himself.
Jones recently admitted that he was flattered to be linked to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine sequel, but insisted that he would only take the job "under the right circumstances".
