'Amazing Spider-Man' looking for redhead

Producers are looking to cast a redhead for upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man.

According to SuperHeroHype, a casting call went out for Marc Webb's superhero reboot, though the part will be restricted to background appearances.

The description read: "Actress to portray beautiful red-headed teenage girl for featured background... (18+ only)."

This has led to speculation that the actress will play Peter Parker's later love interest and the comic book's iconic redhead Mary Jane Watson, a character who it was reported wasn't featured in the original screenplay.

The part was made famous by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire. Emma Stone was rumoured to be playing Mary Jane in the reboot before she was announced as Gwen Stacy in the film opposite Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man.

Actor C. Thomas Howell recently revealed that the crew were to start shooting in New York to finish production on the film. The movie has been given a July 2012 release date, and also stars Sally Field and Martin Sheen as Peter Parker's aunt and uncle and Rhys Ifans as a key villain.
