The stage show American Idiot is based on the band's album of the same name and follows the coming-of-age of three young friends living in a small US town.
According to Deadline, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong will take on the role of a drug dealer, which he has played on Broadway.
Tony Award-winning musical director Michael Mayer is expected to helm the project.
