In an interview with New York Magazine earlier this week, the actor described the production as "terrible" and claimed that the reason it was not able to secure a wide release is because it's "not very good".
He also took back his previous praise for Fox, who he once called one of the best actresses of all time, clarifying that she is only one of the best "that [he] worked with".
However, he has since contacted the publication to say that he was sorry for insulting the movie and that he did not mean any of what he said.
"When I talked to you, I was at a party. It was loud and crowded, I was in a s**tty mood and I was trying to get rid of your reporter," he said via e-mail.
"Mitch [Glazer, director] is one of my best friends since we were kids. I loved working with him and would do it again tomorrow. I don't know why I said that stupid s**t. I love Mitch, I love Megan. My bad."
Passion Play was previously reported to be scheduled for a straight-to-video release, though it has since been confirmed for a limited theatrical release.
