According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Rango actress is in talks to join the cast of Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel.
Fisher is tipped to play Myrtle Wilson. The wife of a garage owner, Myrtle has an affair with athlete Tom Buchanan in the book. It was rumoured earlier this month that Ben Affleck is being considered for the role of Buchanan.
Never Let Me Go actress Carey Mulligan has already been cast as Buchanan's wife Daisy. Tobey Maguire is rumoured to be playing Nick Carraway, who narrates the novel, with Leonardo Di Caprio slated to star as the titular Jay Gatsby.
Luhrmann has previously revealed that making the right casting decisions had become an "obsession" for him. He has also said that he is considering shooting the movie in 3D.
Filming is due to begin this August in Sydney.
