The Braveheart star, who filmed scenes for the comedy movie, was allegedly cut when cast members objected to Gibson having a role after he was accused of battering former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
Gibson told Deadline: "You have to let that go. I sat here and talked to [director] Todd [Phillips] about it. I like Todd. How could you not like Todd? He's smart and he's gifted and so are the other people in the film. It's okay. You just have to let that go.
"It shows you a few things. You just move on and go, 'Okay. I'm not greatly offended by it.' It seemed like a good idea at the time and it went south."
Gibson also revealed that he does not mind if his career is over, saying: "I don't care if I don't act anymore. It really is true. I'm going to do something now because I want to do it and because it's fun."
The actor recently opened up about the leaked recordings that caught him threatening Grigorieva, saying: "That was one terribly awful moment in time, said to one person in the span of one day, and doesn't represent what I truly believe or how I've treated people my entire life."
Gibson recently escaped jail in his misdemeanour battery case by agreeing to volunteer at a children's charity for 16 hours.
