It had previously been confirmed that Byung-hun Lee would be returning as Storm Shadow, while Channing Tatum is widely expected to reprise his role as Duke. However, Park had remained relatively quiet about his role in the film up until now.
"Good news all! As you might have guessed I'm coming back to play Snake Eyes for the sequel of G.I. Joe, directed by Jon Chu," Park tweeted earlier this week.
"Good script!" Park later added. "My hardcore workouts have begun! I can not wait!"
Original cast member Rachel Nicols sparked rumours of Park's involvement with the film last month, when she claimed that only three characters from the first film would be returning.
It was confirmed in February that Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon Chu would helm the sequel for Paramount Pictures.
G.I. Joe 2 is expected to be released in cinemas on August 10, 2012.
