The 63-year-old Australian actress, who was recently nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting role in Animal Kingdom, said that she is looking forward to acting alongside the "lovely" Emily Blunt in Judd Apatow's latest comedy Five Year Engagement.
Weaver told The Daily Telegraph: "Nick Stoller, the writer and director, brought a copy to my hotel in LA about three months ago during the lead-up to the Golden Globes and the Oscars and asked if I was interested.
"After getting producer Judd Apatow's approval, we did a read-through a few weeks later with the entire cast for an audience of about 60 Universal employees. Much laughter.
"It's a funny script. I'm playing Emily Blunt's mother. Emily is a great girl, lovely, and a terrific actress. I leave in a week's time, shooting in Ann Arbor, Michigan [and am] really looking forward to it."
The movie also stars Jason Segel and Rhys Ifans.
Last month, Weaver revealed that she has been sent up to 15 scripts and offered lots of roles since her Oscar nomination.
