Johnny Depp to cameo in '21 Jump Street'

Johnny Depp will appear in the film adaptation of 21 Jump Street.

According to Coming Soon, Depp will make a cameo appearance in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the 80s television series. Depp starred on the series, in which he played a young undercover cop who investigates teenage crime.

21 Jump Street ran from 1987 to 1991.

Last December, Depp stated that he would like to make a cameo appearance in the film. However, he said at the time that he had not yet been contacted to appear in the movie.

The film version stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, and James Franco's brother Dave. Hill has previously stated that he hoped Depp would join the cast as well.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs) will direct the picture. Hill has also written the screenplay with Michael Bacall Scott Pilgrim vs the World).

21 Jump Street is currently scheduled for release on March 16, 2012.
