It was previously unclear whether the movie would see Steve Rogers arrive in the 21st century or remain in a World War II setting. Speaking to MTV News, Evans revealed that this will happen in the first film and not the following Avengers movie.
"In the first Cap movie they bring him into the modern world," he said. "It's established."
He also spoke about the antagonism between Robert Downey Jr's "flash" Iron Man and Captain America, who is "selfless, in the shadows and kind of quiet", when they appear together in The Avengers.
Evans recently revealed that he almost turned down the role, as he felt it was very similar to the part of the Human Torch that he played in the two Fantastic Four films.
He and Samuel L. Jackson were recently spotted shooting a scene for Captain America in Times Square.
Production on The Avengers officially began yesterday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
