The project, which has had its plot details kept tightly under wraps, will co-star District 9 lead Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner and Matt Damon.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, the actress admitted that secrecy around the film is so strict that she is not allowed to keep the script in her own home.
"I hope I'm allowed to say that. I think I'm allowed to say that. That's pretty vague," she commented on her role.
However, Foster added that the movie will have "social commentary" similar to Blomkamp's first film District 9, which was set in a futuristic South Africa.
The actress-turned-director recently said she is keen to helm her own sci-fi project after she finishes her current slate.
