According to NOLA, the Louisiana office of film and video disclosed that production on the sequel will begin in New Orleans this September and run through to November.
The statement was later retracted along with a statement that no official decision has been made regarding the film's shooting location; however, the report did confirm that the proposed sequel is currently titled G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes.
In February it was confirmed that Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon Chu would helm the sequel, which sees Channing Tatum reprise his role as lead character Duke.
Last weekend Ray Park also confirmed that he will be reprising his role as ninja Snake Eyes for the film, while Lee Byung-hun has previously admitted he will be involved once again as the villain Storm Shadow.
G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes is currently scheduled for release on August 10, 2012.
