The action sequel, starring Vin Diesel and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, pulls in $4.1 million to again hold off competition from Marvel's latest superhero adventure Thor.
In a slow week in which no major new films opened Down Under, overall box office takings fell by 42%. The Lost Bladesman, at number 18, is the only new release to register in the upper reaches of the chart.
20th Century Fox's 3D animation Rio holds its position at number three, while Russell Brand's Arthur and Hop switch places from last week to complete the top five.
The position of the remaining movies in the top ten are all unchanged from last week.
