The actress could be joining Mila Kunis and James Franco, who will star as the good witch who turns evil and a travelling snake oil seller who becomes 'The Wizard' respectively, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Oz will be the prequel to the 1939 film, showing how Franco's character ends up ruling the magical land, despite having no powers.
Director Sam Raimi is still looking to cast Glinda, who appears in the earlier film, and is reportedly considering Rebecca Hall, Keira Knightley and Amy Adams for the part.
It was claimed recently that he wanted Hilary Swank to take on one of the witch roles and had come into conflict with Disney Pictures over the casting choice.
Weisz was last seen in the war drama The Whistleblower.
