Saoirse Ronan for Stephenie Meyer's 'The Host'

The Host, published in 2008, centres on humans fighting against extra-terrestrials called Souls who invade bodies and wipe their victims' consciousness to erase their personalities.
Oscar-nominated Atonement and Lovely Bones actress Ronan will play lead character Melanie Stryder and the alien, called Wanderer, who takes over her body, reports Deadline.
Andrew Niccol has written the script for The Host and is rumoured to be in the running to direct the adaptation. Meyer reportedly counts Niccol's Gattaca and The Truman Show among her top five science fiction movies.
Ronan's latest movie Hanna, in which she plays a teenage assassin, opens in UK cinemas on Friday.
