Speaking to MTV, the helmer said that he has plans for a "hard-R scary" follow-up to the supernatural horror.
"It's interesting that over the years, Constantine seems like it's become... like it has this sort of cult following, which has been great," he said. "It's been embraced.
"It would be great to figure out a sequel, and if we did, and we've been trying to figure one out, it would be great to do the really dark, scary [version]," he added. "We got caught in that weird PG-13 - R no man's land, and we should do the hard-R scary version, which I would love to do."
Based on the comic by DC and Vertigo, Constantine starred Keanu Reeves as an occult detective seeking salvation from an eternity in hell. The film received mixed reviews.
It was previously reported that the comic book incarnation of the character will be reintroduced to DC's mainstream line during the Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search For Swamp Thing miniseries.
Lawrence's latest film Water for Elephants opens in the UK this week.
